 History

John A. Strain was raised in Southern California and has lived in Manhattan Beach, California for the last 26 years. After working with a large national law firm for six years, he founded this firm in 1980. Mr. Strain is certified as a Specialist in Taxation Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of the California Bar.

Specialties

Mr. Strain has experience in a variety of individual and business-oriented tax matters. A substantial amount of this experience relates to foreign businesses with U.S. operations and investments and to U.S. persons with foreign business and investment endeavors. Because pension plans raise complicated tax issues for businesses, Mr. Strain also has substantial experience regarding the technical aspects of such plans as regulated by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (commonly called "ERISA").     Mr. Strain received his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Chicago Law School in 1974. At the University of Chicago, he was an Associate Editor of the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif honor society. He received his Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in economics from Claremont McKenna College in 1971.
